Delete your account
Who runs DiscipleOS
DiscipleOS is a mobile app and the site at discipleos.com. Both are owned and operated by Vision Labs LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Arkansas, United States. You can reach us at miguel@discipleos.com.
Two ways to delete
There are two ways to delete your DiscipleOS account: in the app, and by email if you no longer have the app.
Delete your account in the app
- Open DiscipleOS and go to Settings.
- Tap Delete account and data. It is the last row, under Sign out.
- Read what goes and what stays, then tap Continue.
- Tap Delete everything on the screen that says this cannot be undone.
The app says your account is deleted only after the server confirms it. If it cannot confirm, it tells you that instead, so a deletion that did not finish is never shown to you as done.
Delete your account without the app
Email miguel@discipleos.com and ask us to delete your DiscipleOS account. Send it from the address you sign in with, or name that address or number in the message:
- Phone number. If you sign in with a code sent to your phone, give us that number.
- Google. If you sign in with Google, give us the email on that Google account.
- Apple. If you sign in with Apple, give us the email on that Apple account.
We confirm it is you before anything is deleted. We write back to that same number or address and ask you to confirm the request, so nobody else can delete your account by asking. Once you confirm, the deletion is finished within 30 days.
What is deleted
Everything that is yours alone goes:
- Your profile and your photo.
- Your Soul Profile and your answers.
- Your habits and your check-ins.
- Your Circle connections.
- Your messages.
- The posts you wrote.
- Files you uploaded, including photos and voice notes. If a file cannot be removed in that pass, your account is still deleted, the miss is logged, and we remove the file ourselves afterward.
- Your sign-in record, so there is no account left to sign in to.
The app also clears your data from the device. If a recorded Notes audio file cannot be removed right away, the app tells you so on the confirmation screen.
Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription, whether you bought it through Apple, through Google, or on the web. Cancel it first, or the charges continue. The steps for each are on Support.
What stays, and why
Some records are not yours alone. Those keep the record and drop your name, with the two exceptions named below.
- What you made for a church as its leader. Its calendar, its announcements, its teaching, and its children's check-in sessions stay with that church, with your name removed, so a congregation does not lose its own records when a leader leaves. They stay for as long as that church keeps its own records; the church decides that, not DiscipleOS.
- A gift you gave through a church. The amount, the date, the fund, and the payment reference stay on that church's books; your name and email come off, and the gift is no longer connected to you. That record is the church's financial record, and it keeps the church's totals, audits, and bookkeeping whole. If your church later needs to connect a gift to a person again, its leadership can do that. A gift with no name on it cannot appear on a year-end giving statement, so if you want your giving history for taxes, ask your church for it before you delete. The record stays for as long as the church keeps its books.
- A group or a direct message you created. It passes to its longest-standing member, so nobody else loses their messages. A room with nobody left in it is closed.
- An invitation record that named you. The record stays and loses your name and email.
- Two church records keep your name. A check-in record naming you as a child's guardian says who may pick up a child. A pledge a leader recorded in your name is a promise the church wrote down. Both stay with the church as its own record, for as long as that church keeps its records.
- Records we have to keep. We may retain limited records where necessary for legal, security, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes, for as long as the law that requires each of them says, and no longer.
- Backups. We keep no backup copies of our own, so once a record is deleted from the live database, no copy we control remains. Our database provider holds only its own recovery copies, which expire on the provider's schedule.
Deleting part of your account
There is no request that deletes part of an account. By email, deletion covers the whole account. In the app you can edit or delete your own content one item at a time, and you can keep a copy of everything first: Settings, then Export my data.
